Exhibition “Images of Science"
Max Planck Society (MPG)
Science often pushes back the boundaries of the known world to explore the new and make the unseen visible. In this, images play an important role. Sometimes images of science show surprisingly aesthetic forms and structures: abstract works of art from a world normally hidden to the human eye.
For the exhibition, scientists from the more than 80 research institutes of the Max Planck Society have contributed images of their work from widely varying research fields. The techniques used range from conventional photography to coloured microscopic images (light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, scanning tunnelling microscopy) through to computer simulation.
The selection shown at the underground station Rathaus Steglitz consists of 17 images. For most of them, you will find additional information, including films and more pictures, in our accompanying app “Images of Science”.
